Even coming from a n immigrant family, it seems my grandmother chose not to go by her german family traditions (maybe because many german immigrants were afraid when they moved post WWII).

But watching a lot of old families in documentaries I'm kind of sad I dont have those kids of traditions. My husband is a mutt and I think the closest I have to that on his side is being catholic... so there are some traditions but even then they are often heritage based, like Irish Catholics are very different to Mexican catholics etc.

Is that odd as an american/blended cultures?

My Oma had some things with candles during dinner time. I hope to do that when I have some kiddos and a home with toom for a real dining table and when I can stay home and have enough energy to keep my home (disabled but working full time) then well do that.
