My dog peed because of step dad
A little back story. Boyfriend, dog and I moved in with my mom and step dad when our roommate failed us.
My dog is 2 years old. We’ve had him since he was 7 weeks old. (he’s a Labrador retriever) My dog grew up in my household with my mom and dad. Well, just this past august, he started barking and growling at my step dad. Growling every time he’d get near me or hear his voice. I always questioned it, but never really looked into it.
Well guys! I found out that my step dad hits my dog.
We tie my dog up with a long leash in the living room ONLY when no one is home. The reason is because he likes to get into the kitchen, trash cans, gets on the table and eat whatever he can find. Our kitchen is open concept, so there is no way for us to block the entrance. Other than that, he has free roam of the house. And we don’t use a kennel because we really don’t like to limit his movement.
Anyway we Left to the store at 6 pm. Took my dog out before I headed out. We tied him to the couch. Came back home 2.5 hours later. We noticed that he had gotten loose and had peed. He is potty trained.
At first, oh I thought it was an accident. But then I saw closer and noticed that my dog had to pull with force in order to loosen himself up from the couch. (His leash was tied to the peg of the couch) also noticed that the couch was moved. Interesting because he only ever uses his force when there is “threat”
Step dad came out of the room and asked “oh, did you spill something?” I looked at him and said “ no, but I know what you did”
He denied it. His story was this.
(Step dad came home, made some tea, and came to the living room. Must have dropped a piece of bread and the dog lunged for it causing my dog to become loose. )
I called BS. He then went into the bathroom and said (oh, your dog peed in the bathroom. No wonder I was hearing noises )
(Well that’s interesting because whenever we’re in the bedroom, we can hardly ever hear my dog when he gets himself in trouble in the kitchen. My step dad sure must have super hearing)
Anyway, I came to inspect it and sure enough, there was dog pee, but not in a puddle. More like sprinkles here and there. I went back to the puddle of pee in the carpet and I saw a trail of pee leading to the bathroom.
Funny! I don’t recall teaching my dog to pee in the toilet. Unless he picked up on it and attempted to try it out himself.
Well, he was the only one home. And why else would there be a trail of pee leading to the bathroom. He obviously wanted to stop him from peeing even more so he dragged him to the bathroom.
The other night, my boyfriend came and told me that he caught my step dad spanking our dog. And he had told him to never lay a hand on my dog again.
With this said, I don’t know what to do. My mom is currently on vacation, and I’m sure she will dismiss this like she always dismissed everything I say about step dad.
We are 23, we are moving out in February.
But in the meantime, what do I do? My step dad is childish. He likes to make my dog bark and get heated. Ughh. Help someone?
(Because of this recent behavior, he starts barking and lunging at people that come visit. If someone were to come near us, my dog will bark his head off. He wasn’t like this. Like dude! He’s a Labrador retriever. They love everyone. I have had 4 labs total within the years
