How to shop for groceries on your own

This might sound like a silly topic for a 24 year old girl. But to be super honest and blunt with you all, I'm a bit of a tomboy who yes works full time, but never had to worry about groceries and normal expenses. My mom and dad are well off. I'm the oldest of 4. I have no idea what a normal hydro bill might be let alone a grocery bill.

I'm used to just coming home and having a full fridge; a full freezer; someone who ordered something. I cook all the time. But I couldn't tell you the last time I was in a grocery store. I have never been grocery shopping. EVER.

And here I am in 31 days leaving the nest. I'm growing the f*ck up. I saved my money while living for free at home. The rule was you can live at home for free as long as you're saving and being smart with your money. I grew my savings. Built up my credit. Paid for my first car in cash (I didn't want to have a payment so I took the bus to work for like 3 years or got a ride with my mom if she happened to be headed the same way I was). I have an emergency savings fund too!

So honestly. How the heck does a single person meal prep and grocery shop? In a SMART way. At home there was always someone else around to cook for. So I'm used to cooking in large batches. I've never seen a package with one chicken breast before.

How do you grocery shop for 1 person? What do you include in that list? I'm all for saving and meal prepping and freezing food. I'd really appreciate your advice. I want to be smart about this (and not eat out!)

So please! Drop me a generic grocery list or a dollar amount or some ingredients I just have to have or an awesome recipe that can last you more than one meal or something that freezes well ETC.
