My friend has a 9 month old called roman and I want to call my son Rowan? I wanted to call my first son rowan but we settled with Leo

I’d mention it to her just to be polite. Nip any catty feelings in the bud now before any resentment starts developing. But I wouldn’t go changing my mind if I was already set on the name. Just as a little courtesy thing I’d let her know, and have a laugh about how similar the names sound. Just so she’s not shocked or somehow offended. People don’t always have rational responses to things. So if she’s aware in advance she’ll more likely be cool with it.

Personally I think unless you heard the name from her like that's where you got it after she had told you she wanted to use the name for her child or if it's a family member using a similar name for their kid then it matters but otherwise it doesnt, if you thought about using the name well before her and it's not the same name it doesnt matter, honestly regardless it doesnt matter if yalls kids even had the same names cause she doesnt own it & yall are just friends it's not a big deal.

My 3 yr old has a Roman and Rowan in her preschool class. It has gotten confusing only because they sound familiar but they are too different names so wouldn’t bother me if my kid and friends kid had names that sound familiar. I babysat a boy named Easton my husbands friends kid and my son is Ethan it was funny only because every time I had to get on to my son (Ethan no) poor Easton would look like what did I do.
