Should I switch formulas?

I’m a ftm and not really much help from the pediatrician. But our baby (Hes 3 weeks old today) is on Enfamil Gentlease and he’s been really gassy, a bit fussy, and throws up a lot. He also will sometimes go a day or a little over a day without pooping and then when he poops it’s green and A LOT. And often runny. His farts also smell.. not sure if that matters?? Sorry if this sounds stupid but I just don’t know if I should switch to something else or no??? If so, any suggestions?

I switched my baby a couple times without ever consulting the pediatrician. My baby’s pediatrician is more educated than I am, but she also doesn’t see the day to day of my baby that I do so I made that call myself. My baby had issues with learning how to poop in the first few weeks. If it comes out runny, baby most likely isn’t constipated and is just trying to learn what muscles to use to push the poop out which causes discomfort. If you think the gas seems bad, there’s no harm in switching formulas to try something else out.

I switch my baby’s formula without asking the pediatrician. Formula is made for babies and I know my baby best. We went through a few but have found the one that works best for her tummy. Similac Total Comfort! It’s worked wonders.

The only thing that worked for our first was gas drops. We used targets version of similac sensitive and gas drops in every bottle until he was about 10 months old. Then he did fine without. Switched to whole milk no problems.

My baby is on Similac Pro Sensitive. I would suggest trying that. It worked well for her, as I know all babies are different. She started on Similac Pro Advanced but due to some gas issue I changed her to Pro Sensitive. I did not check with my doctor first. She’s been on it 5 months now and has no problems.

I switched a few times as we had allergies & intolerances and it took a while to find one that worked. 
It’s fine to switch as long as it’s the same protein. When you switch proteins (eg. cow milk to soy, rice, goat, elemental formula) it can give baby issues for a few days.

Since he’s already on Gentleese I would ask your pediatrician first. You can also try gripe water to see if that helps with the gas. If he’s not pooping every day be sure you’re mixing enough water with the formula (measure water first then add formula) so that he’s not getting dehydrated. And formula poop and gas just stinks in general so I would think that part is normal. If it continues they can do an allergy test on him but they’ll typically wait u til 6 weeks for that. If your pediatrician is not helpful then find a new one.

Ied try the gerber baby probiotics. They help colicy or reflux babies. Similac gentle is a good one. Or the purple similac.
