Would you rather own a two story house or a one story?

Currently debating between a new build of one story, or a new build two story. Both have the new energy efficiency. Worried about if there will be a major difference in monthly utility expenses.

I have always preferred a 2 story because I feel it puts more distance between the living areas and bedrooms for privacy and if you entertain a lot, it's less likely people will go upstairs. Also for some reason I feel safer on a second story sleeping cuz I know no one can come through my window and less noise if you want to sleep while other members are out and about in the rest of the house.

Check this out... so.... do yall plan on staying in this home forever? If so, think about going up and down stairs as you age and your knees and hips wear out... 1 story. Also better on resale

I prefer an open concept one story house. I have kids and we’ve lived in a two story house. It was just too much especially when they were babies. If i was upstairs i felt confined there and going up and down the stairs freshly postpartum was horrible. It also felt more closed off and was a hassle to clean. I worry less with a one story house and its just a lot easier to manage with kids.

I clicked one story because I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant with an 18month old. We live in a 2 story town house and I dread going upstairs 😂 but overall it probably is better haha

They are practically the same. Council tax is higher as it's based on the value of the house

One story unless you really like the two story look/style. If you want to save money on electric, one story. It’s more expensive to cool/heat a two story house.

I would much prefer a one story, but we have 3 kids already and a fourth due in March, so two story made more sense for us.

So happy we have a single story split ranch. To me, your house feels far more open and cozy when it’s one story. 
If you go two story, and you have kids/planning to have kids, make sure all bedrooms are on the same level. That’s a nightmare with a baby.
