Friends with benefits ?

So I had been sleeping with this guy here and there for a while, we both made it clear we didn’t want relationships, (although I was open to the idea) we cared about each other but we kept it just sex, and we’d hang out every once in a while. Recently I asked him to get together and he said he met someone and basically we should stop talking because he wants to pursue something with her. I’m just curious on y’all’s opinions because it made me feel like shit knowing he didn’t want a relationship with me — yet he’d want one with someone else. Opinions?
