How long do you let your baby cry?

Hi ladies!
My almost 1 month old is not an independent sleeper. Ever since she was born she will only sleep in mine or my husband's arms. She fussed as soon as we lay her down or even put her in a bouncer, swing, or on a play mat. We've tried everything- swaddling, white noise, pacifiers, laying her down while drowsy, putting an arm in her bassinet, even putting a shirt of mine in there, etc.. She also doesn't like sleeping on her back. She sleeps in her tummy on one of us. She sleeps in a baby carrier so I can at least do stuff around the house. A lot of parents have been telling me it was like that for them for the first 6 weeks, but I'm wondering what changed? I'm also wondering how long one can let a newborn cry.... This girl has lungs!

I’m a ftm with a almost 4 week old daughter, but I don’t let her cry. Crying is her only way to communicate and she is too young to understand why i would let her cry. 
I’ve heard from different parents that the first 8 weeks are the hardest with sleeping and that after that it will become easier.

We don’t let her cry. She’s a newborn and that is how she communicates that she needs to eat, a clean diaper, that her tummy is gassy, that she needs snuggles!! The cry it out method comes so much later... right now she needs to know that she can depend on you for her needs. She needs security! 
I honestly never let my oldest “cry it out”. She’s now 7 years old and she is the sweetest little girl! She’s not spoiled at all. I actually get so many compliments from her teachers that she is well behaved and listens to instructions. Babies crying stresses me out.. so that’s my personal parenting style. When a baby or child cries, I scoop them up and love on them!! 🥰🥰

At night I don’t typically let her cry because she’s too little. She is trying to tell me something. It’s hard though when your baby won’t sleep anywhere but on you. During the day though my LO will just cry. I’m starting to think she’s a bit colicky. I will do everything. Feed, burp, change, hold, etc. and she just cries. So sometimes I have no choice but to put her down and walk away for a little bit. This morning for instance I tried for an hour to console her with no success. I was started to get frustrated and so I laid her in her bassinet and went and washed bottles and did the dishes which took about 10 minutes. She cried, I relaxed some, and I went back to get her and I finally was able to get her to relax and fall asleep.

This being my second...we let him cry for a few minutes. You'll learn they have different cries. Sometimes it'll be a whimper cry...so when he wants to be held...and sometimes it will be more of an angry cry when hes hungry or needs a new diaper. Yes crying is their only method of communication but unless you let them communicate you may miss what they are saying. Now I'm not saying let them scream for a long time. But if you pick them up at the first little squeak you'll go insane. Just my opinion and my experience.

I maybe let my LO cry for about 2-3 minutes. That’s only if I need to leave him in his bassinet while I go to the bathroom. 
Have you tried singing to your LO? Once when I was exhausted, it was middle of the night, trying to get him to calm down, I went into a hysteria moment and just started singing to him. Not a real song, just a melody but saying “time for sleep. Let’s go to sleep. Come on baby Elric, time to go to sleep. So mommy can sleep. And daddy can sleep.” And he calmed down within seconds. I was so shocked. I kept singing for a couple minutes before we both went to bed.

I need to follow this post because I am a FTM and mine is 5weeks today. She doesn’t sleep well. She is always gassy and spits up a lot then chokes on it (even though I watch my diet). She is ALWAYS HUNGRY and fussing to be fed less than hours after she just breastfed for an hour. She only sleeps for 20-30min at a time unless u am breastfeeding or holding her on my chest. I know I’m not supposed to let her “sleep suck” but I am desperate. THE ONLY TIME I can rest is if she is asleep on me. As soon as I place her in bassinet (we have two), vibrator, swing or back pack carrier, she’s screaming. *sigh* and we are talking the kind of screaming where she doesn’t even make noise anymore and starts holding her breath and turning SUPER RED. 
The other day she did good though and stayed up most of the day, usually she sleeps during day and is up all night. Or just sleeps 30 min at a time throughout the entire day

I’m sorry, mama. That sounds really tough and I hope it gets easier for you soon. I don’t have any advice, but if it’s any consolation, I’ve noticed every day brings something new. There never seems to be end-all-be-all solutions because the needs change daily and from moment to moment. Just keep on trying! You’re doing great.
For crying, I don’t let my son cry for longer than the amount of time it takes me to hear it and get to him as soon as possible. I don’t believe in letting babies this young cry it out when it’s their only form of communication; newborns only cry when they need something. That being said, I also don’t believe in neglecting your own mental health either because in order to be a good mom, we have to be good to ourselves too. If your baby has been crying nonstop and you need to put them down for a short moment to take a breath and/or go scream into a pillow, do what you need to do for your mental health. It doesn’t make you a bad parent to do that.

I pick up baby as soon as I can after he starts crying. They need something when they cry; whether it’s food, new diaper, or just comfort.
