Too girly?

My son got this as a gift, handmade by a family member, and several people, including SO, think it’s too girly to put on him.  To me tie dye is always kind of gender neutral.

Tie dye is non gendered. I personally love purple everything, so I'm biased. :) If you like it, don't worry about other people. Gendered color is a social construct that varies depending on country and fashion. 
60 years ago, people were adamant that pink was for boys and blue was for girls until some magazine said otherwise.  Hundreds of years ago, colored clothing indicated social status until fabric dyes became commonly available. 🤷‍♀️

The only thing is that the design in the middle looks a little floral to me, so that looks a little girly more so than the actual colors. But in all honesty, does it really matter? He can at least wear it at home.

I think it’s girly because of the colors, but I would still put him in it. Especially if it was made by a family member. The meaning behind it is more important than the colors imo

It totally doesn’t matter! 
Half the clothes we pick out for our little girl comes from the boy section. Cause we like darker tones and what not at most girl clothes are lighter and pink. Most people will say him even when she has flowers on. I say boy looking clothes or girl looking clothes...they all get pooped, peed, and slobbered on just the same. 
With that said I think it’s a great shirt for a boy or girl.

I think dark purple works for boys, especially with the blue in it too. I assume it's a onesie so just pair it with navy pants or jeans.

It’s fine. It was made just for him, and it’s super cute! It’s not like you’re putting a bow and tutu on him 🙄 I’d ignore people and put it on my son 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just an update, I think SO purposely let his diaper blowout and then he washed it without stain remover even though he knows it’ll stain 😩 I lost this battle.  At least I got a couple of pictures in it first:
