Okay so before I begin let me just say that I love my MIL, she is a very sweet and awesome person and I am grateful to have her in my life, truly. Now, my mom lost her battle with cancer in 2013 just a few months before my now husband and I started dating. So we got married last year and as a Christmas present my MIL gave us this painting/drawing which is super thoughtful and I can tell it came from the heart! 
Here’s the thing - it creeps me out because my mom is on there without a face and angel wings and to the right of her is my dad with his new wife (whom I also like). I don’t care for faceless art personally as it is but having my mom on there for some reason just eeeks me out. She framed it really nicely and clearly is hoping we hang it, but I just don’t know where to put it. I feel awful about it but guys I don’t know what to do with it. Am I being over sensitive? Are there any other ladies out there that can relate and offer advice? My husband loves it and thinks it was a really sweet gesture which it was but it just makes me uncomfortable. What does you guys think?

I lost my mother and father and honestly I agree with you on this. It would definitely make me uncomfortable. I would nicely explain that to her if you guys have a good relationship I’m sure she’ll understand. You can’t help how you feel.

I think it’s cool! But I also still have my mother. Don’t feel bad for feeling a certain way. Is there somewhere you can hang it where it isn’t in main living spaces?

Ok so my dad passed away 6 weeks before my wedding and I just wouldn't like this painting either. My MIL gifted us a blanket for Christmas with photos on it and I just do not like it either. We have it put away. Somethings I just don't find appealing and we all have different taste. She has a picture of my husband on her pillow and truthfully it creeps us all out lol. We were given 6 homemade signs for wedding gifts with our names and wedding dates on them. No way would we be able to display them all. They are tucked into a closet. People have visited our home and asked where their signs are and we explained we were gifted so many we don't have nearly enough wall space and thank them kindly for their gift. A home is a reflection of what you wish so you don't have to decorate how someone else wants you too and don't lose sleep at night about it.

I think it’s a beautiful picture and everyone is faceless not just your mom. Maybe do you have an office you can put it in? Or just be honest with her and let her know you couldn’t find a place to hang it.

I received a painting of my so and I as a gift. It is water color and while it is really really good, it is not my style.  We have a giant walk in closet and I have a lot of art hung in there. It is not stored, I see it daily, and still appreciate it .
