Not breastfeeding?

Question

What do you do to prevent milk coming in after baby is born? I breastfed my first so not sure how bottle feeding from the start works. Do they give you something to prevent the milk coming in? Do i need a special bra? I had mastitis with my first and DEFINITELY dont want that again!

Yah I just wore a sports bra and waited. If you don’t breast feed they will dry up on their own. They’re like rocks for about a week or two. Then they slowly go back to “normal” if you can call it that lol. I’ve had two kids and haven’t breast fed either of them. However, I’m doing the opposite of you and this time I’m going to attempt trying to breast feed my twins. We will see how it goes. I’m not going to stress about it if it doesn’t work out, but I would like to actually attempt it this time.

4 kids and what i do is wear a size smaller bra so its tight against the chest, dont run them under hot water when showering, i also have wrapped mine in ace bandage but not for everyone, also cabbage leaves in the bra help dry it up... basically after not using it for a bit your body dries it up naturally

I bottle fed my first. They didn't give me anything to stop milk coming in, they had me wear loose bras or no bra and try to avoid anything touching your breasts. Even the spray of the shower should be avoided until everything calms down. It's painful for like three days to a week and then it calms down

I am so glad you posted this because I’m really annoyed that there’s like NO INFO on it, and it’s automatically assumed everyone attempts breastfeeding. I’m not doing it and I’m a FTM... I’m literally just not because i just don’t want to. I just found out yesterday that there is even a shot that you can ask for... also I was told taking cold medicine or allergy medication dries it up too (specifically benedryl).

Just curious as I'm going to be a new Mommy so please don't take offense. Why wouldn't you want to breastfeed?  I have fears if not being able to breastfeed due to medications and people get kind of pissy about it.  Thanks!

Some doctors will give you a shot if you ask. Some prefer not to though.

I'm not sure what they do wherever you're from but I had my first in Ireland and they dont give you any tablets to stop milk coming in. But my friend was born in France and her mum was given tablets to stop it coming in? So must depend on were you're from. Also just wear a tight bra and keep your boobs in that all day everyday! It can take awhile to go away. Mine took a good 4 months! :)
