Should we give a pronunciation guide for our baby’s name?

A bit of an odd question really. We’ve chosen an unusual name for our baby girl (not strange or made up, just very uncommon, especially in the UK). Because there is a good chance of people not knowing how to say it, do you think our name announcement after she’s born, like on Facebook for example, should include a “how to pronounce my name” breakdown, or should we just wait for people to ask if they’re not sure? Xxx

Make a video of you and the baby and introduce her by saying her name. You'll give everyone the info without drawing attention to it.

Great name! I think being up front and posting up how to pronounce it (exactly as you did for us) makes a lot of sense. People might be too shy to ask. I probably would have put the emphasis on the wrong part of the name otherwise. 😉

Thanks everyone! One of the reasons I was thinking about it, is that there are actually a couple of ways to pronounce it, depending on where you’re from. Obviously, we’re using the English name pronunciation. 
If you’re Greek (which is where the name originated, from the classical mythology- Calliope/ Kalliope was the muse of music and poetry. The English name actually now means “beautiful voice” 💖) their pronunciation is Kal-EE-oh-pee (with an EE sound rather than an EYE sound).
It’s also the name of a musical instrument or type of music (the kind you might hear in a fair or circus, like on merry go rounds - the rides with horses that go up and down). If you’re talking about them it’s Kal-ee-OH-pee.
We obviously want at least those who know her to know how to pronounce her name correctly, even though she’s going to have a lifetime of correcting people. Luckily, her nickname is Callie, so much easier!! Xxx
