Anyone taken their LO to higher elevations? What did you do to help them adjust?

We are taking our LO to Denver soon, and i am concerned about the higher elevations causing ear issues or altitude sickness. It will be a 2500 ft difference in elevation, which wouldn't bother an adult but a baby might not know what to do. Any suggestions or experiences would help! Thank you!

We love at about 250’ elevation and traveled to Leadville CO which is over 10,000’ elevation (and the house we stayed at is a good bit higher than the town) in October. Hydration is the most important thing so you’ll want to be prepared to have extra bottle supplies if your little one still takes bottles or at least encourage lots of water drinking. If you’re breastfeeding you want to make sure you are drinking lots of extra water to prevent dehydration so that your milk supply can keep up with baby’s increased need. Those are all tips from my little one’s doctor, but obviously that was when he was only 10 months old, so definitely still nursing a lot. My son hasn’t been very good with drinking water but I do think he drank more while we were there. We flew there so I suspect it’s because of the pressure changes on the plane, but my son did develop an ear infection after we got home. Just be mindful of that in case the elevation difference does cause any issues in his/her ears. Overall I didn’t notice much of a difference in my son! He still slept great and behaved like his normal self!

We recently moved and the elevation difference was about a 5600 ft increase, and to drive to the best town for groceries, my husband’s job, etc. is an additional 2000ft up. Honestly, lots of water, and be prepared for dry air. So face/nose balm, and a humidifier. As far as any nausea or anything, no one really noticed anything but I think you’d have to be at a much higher altitude for that. Have fun!
