Alternatives to smash cake?

Hi! My feb 2019 baby will be one in a couple weeks!! I did a smash cake with my first and he did fine with it. However this baby shows little to no interest in finger foods or solids. He mostly eats purees and the baby puffs. So I really don’t feel good about handing him a cake that he won’t know what to do with since he hasn’t had much practice chewing. I know a woman who’s son choked on a muffin and died so of course that’s in my mind.

Anyway, what are some alternative things I could give him after/while we sing instead of a cake?
