Forward facing with harness only or lab belt ok too?

Mmmk we are so confused. Went to Target to get a second seat for hubby’s car to make things easier. We already have a 4ever in my car. We switched to forward facing recently due to her bad motion sickness. It has been so much better. She is a big strong girl- 4t clothes, 38” 33 lbs.

We picked out the Chicco 2in1 lap belt booster (it read 30lbs and 38” on the display) but then when I got home to research online it says harness only front seats should be used until 40-65 lbs. Wondering why this lap seat was advertised for 30 lbs and 38”? It is a latch down.

Here is a pic for reference. I might take it back for the Graco tranzitions 3in1 but honestly she

already hates wearing her harness in the 4ever.

That seat says 30lbs because some 4 year olds only weigh that much. Children should be in a harness buckle until 4-7 years of age. My daughter is just like yours. Same clothing size and weight/height! She hates her harness as well but I know she could easily get out of a lap buckle. You could hang onto that seat for a few years but definitely should be in a harness type seat for now.

I plan to keep mine in the 5 point harness until 7. You may want to check your state laws

The reason why a lot of articles insist on waiting with forward facing is that in case of an accident, kids can have worse spinal injuries / injure easier when forward facing. The reason for that is in the bone development which is tied to age, not size. (Recommended to wait until ages 4-6.)Apart from that, if kid is comfortable and the belts and straps are fitting where they should be, keeping your toddler safely in place, go for it 😊

Excuse how dirty it is. Lol My 2 year old wears a 4t but he fits fine in this car seat with the harness. I wouldn’t move to a booster until about 4.

Read the manual. It should be available online and follow those directions. Carseats all have different suggestions

The manual online says 30lbs 38” in high back mode. So I guess it’s ok! Just makes me a tiny bit nervous I didn’t realize it was lap belt only till we got home 🤷🏻‍♀️
