I'm 19 and haven't had mine yet. I've been sexual active since I was 17 and I have an IUD for birth control. If I'm being completely honest, I'm trying to avoid getting a pap smear done because I'm so scared of it. I'll obviously get it done sometime but I've just been trying to prolong it..

I would recommend everyone young female have a Pap, I found out I had cervical cancer at 20 years old, went through surgeries the works. I’m now 26 and just found out it’s back. All thanks to a abnormal Pap smear!

My gyno told me I didn’t have to do it until I was 21. I’m sexually active too and she knows it.

My doctor won't give me one until I'm 21. I've been told unless you have medical issues involving reproductive health, they shouldn't give a pap until 21

Don’t be scared. They are uncomfortable yes and maybe a tad painful for some people but it’s quick

I didn’t have my first Pap smear until I was 21 when I got pregnant. It’s honestly not bad. The speculum (vagina opener) is uncomfortable and you’ll feel the pressure of it but it shouldn’t be painful. As for the swabbing, it was very quick for me and again was uncomfortable but not painful. Some women have sensitive cervixes, and may experience some spotting afterwards but that’s normal as long as it’s not heavy bleeding. 
Overall, the whole process took less than 5 minutes

I didn’t get one till my first pregnancy at around 24 years old. I like you was a nervous wreck about it. I specifically chose midwives so I’d more than likely have a female. I also almost always had a friend, sister, cousin or my partner come with to hold hand. I’m now 35 and have a 19 month and 4 month old. Im way more at ease about it now. I’m done having kids but I’m still able to see the midwives for my yearly paps. It really is important to get checked out - especially if you are sexually active. I definitely should of gotten one sooner. Ask someone close to go with and see if you can make an appointment with a female dr if that’ll make you feel more comfortable 🤷🏻‍♀️

The IUD was like 5x worse than a pap... paps ate incredibly important... take care of yourself and get one done

I haven’t. My doctor has told me it isn’t necessary for me to get one for another few years.

I’m 24 and the age for testing where I live is 25 (which is ridiculous especially as I have a family history 🙄) it’s getting close to my 25th birthday and I’ve had a letter to arrange my first one in the next few months, I’ve not long had a baby and I’ll be ringing them and getting mine booked as soon as possible. It literally takes a few minutes, it might be uncomfortable or you might feel embarrassed (honestly they don’t care at all you don’t need to worry) but it’s SO important, it can literally save your life. Please go and get it done every time your offered ❤️ xx
