Can your baby drink from a straw?

Question

If yes, any tricks to teach them how to do it? My daughter is very interested in straws since she always sees us drinking from them. I know this is also a development thing that with time will happen but just curious.

I was advised to try first fruit pouches - show them there is purée inside and let them learn to suck it. Then switch to straws

Dip the straw into the drink & place the tip of your pointer finger over the top of the straw to keep the liquid in the straw. Remove the straw from the cup, keeping the top of the straw covered with your fingertip and put it in their mouth and let go so they get a taste of what’s in the straw, it might take a couple tries but that’s how we got my son to start drinking from a straw he just had to understand somehow liquid comes out and after a couple tries he got it down.

Mine got the hang of it pretty quick, the first day he bit it and then the next morning he just took to sucking on the straw, in the beginning I took a drink from the bottle to show him how

He didn’t get it at first so I stopped trying for awhile. I tried again a few weeks ago and demonstrated with my own straw and then he did it right away ! Just takes time

I got my son a munchkin sippy cup from the market with a straw band I just had to keep giving it to him and he eventually got it! It’s still a bit messy so I put a bib on him, he tends to let a bit of water put of his mouth but we are getting better every day

Mine doesn’t seem to get the straw thing at all. He eats from pouches but doesn’t suck food out. I have been trying and trying, I wish he would get it.

I had surgery Monday and the cup they have me has a straw. When I got home she wanted my cup so I just offered it to her and boom. But she has also been eating/drinking those pouches for a few weeks now so that probably helped. I got her this super cute Minnie Mouse cup with a straw and I'm so excited for her to start using.
