Having doctor check to see if I’m dilated?

Is it normal to ask the dr to be checked to see if I’m dilated at all? I am 34 weeks and 1 day. I go to my doctor today, and am curious if I’m dilated at all (not expecting to be) - will they do it at this visit or should I ask?

I just had my 34 week appointment today and my doctor told me at my next appointment when I’ll be 36 she said she’s checking if I’m dilated. You can ask if she’s planning on checking sometime soon but I’m not sure if all places check if there is no reason to.

My office doesn’t check until 36 or 37 weeks, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

The doctor at the hospital I delivered my son at checked for dilation starting at 36 weeks. This time I’m delivering at a different hospital and the doctor said they don’t check for dilation unless I’m having symptoms or contractions.

Mine don’t check until 37/38 weeks unless there’s an issue and you can request not to be checked. I think I’ll opt out of it. You can be dilated for weeks before labor.

My doctor doesnt start til 36 weeks

They never checked me until like 39 weeks with my first. I was completely closed and found it so stressful. I don't want to be checked this time around unless/until it's medically necessary

I requested it on wed. (34.4 weeks). They usually don’t do it until 36 weeks but since I have a history of preterm labor they have been checking me since 33 weeks.
