When baby does something bad or wrong....

Question

How are you all letting baby know they have done something wrong ?
I know baby knows what shaking his head “no” means since he does that when he doesn’t want to eat anymore so I tried this when he doesn’t soemthing wrong... it doesn’t work lol

I say “no” firmly and then redirect. Redirection is your best bet especially at this age. When she hits or smacks (usually out of excitement) we say “no hitting, gentle” and grab her hand and sort of caress the face or whatever of whoever she hit.

I don’t really say no but for instance if my LO is heading for the hot oven I say “the oven is hot. It will burn us if we touch it. Let’s go to the fridge instead.” And I try to make the fridge appear a lot more interesting. Basically I use redirection. It works better than saying a flat out “no”. I’m reserving my no’s for emergencies.

I say no a little sternly until he stops. He understands what no means and he’s already learning to test boundaries , but so far (fingers crossed) he’s a fantastic listener for his age!! It only takes 2 or 3 times of saying no for him to direct his own attention to something else, I’m super proud 😅 he didn’t listen before, but I used to just say no and direct his attention to something else myself, and I guess he eventually caught on 🤷🏻‍♀️

I say a variety of things like “I don’t think that’s a good idea” or “we probably shouldn’t do that” sometimes I’ll say no but really he doesn’t stop doing it after so it’s kind of pointless. I have to move him & redirect for him to stop

I say, "No-no," or, "Uh-oh, that's a no-no," and usually she'll stop, but if she tries it again I make my voice more stern and furrow my eyebrows.
