Curl defining cream for wavy hair?

Question

I have either wavy messy looking hair or a frizz puff ball when brushed. I need some definition to bring out some of the curls on my hair! I want to avoid straightening all the time! 
I’m looking for the best curl defining cream or gel that doesn’t make my hair all hard! Any recommendations ?

I follow the curly girl method, and my curl pattern has improved so much! I love the Cantu curl activator cream (someone already recommended it) but I apply it in the shower. 😁 Also the Blueberry Bliss hair hell has great hold! apply it to wet hair then diffuse to about 70% dry, then air dry. DO NOT touch the curls until completely dry then scrunch out the crunch. 👍🏼 Deva Curl makes a few fantastic gels but they’re more $$. I’d suggest watching some YouTube videos on the curly girl method to learn some more tips if you’re interested. 😊 also my favorite hair towel... cause terry cloth towels cause frizz, so does a regular cotton pillowcase btw. 😊.

You just scrunch it into your hair after you shower and let it dry.  It looks like you curled it!  I was really surprised.
