Fear of choking!

So I took my son to his 9 month checkup and his doctor gave him the go ahead to eat what we eat as long as it's small enough and soft enough for him to chew but I can't seem to get over the fear of him choking on something. I know it's normal for babies to gag cause they're figuring out how to eat but he will gag and his eyes will tear up and I just get crazy anxiety. I just want to play it safe and give him pureed food but I know he likes texture and he wants to eat more. Help???
