Was I wrong to call in?

I have the flu. I work in a nursing home. I’ve had the flu since Tuesday with runny nose, sore throat, chest pains, and stomach ache. I was supposed to work today and tomorrow but my mom (a nurse practitioner) told me not to because I have the flu. Was I wrong? My fiancé seems upset about it.

Absolutely not. Thank you for staying home. The elderly are at a much higher risk for complications with illnesses and especially the flu. I work in an assisted living facility and we have it posted all over the doors and facility to not even come in if you have flu like symptoms!! We also quarantine residents if they have symptoms or test positive for flu or any contagious illness really

No, this needs to be more acceptable. I work with elderly as well and it drives me crazy when they get frustrated cause we call in. Elderly are at a higher risk, even the common cold could be fatal to them. You need to take time to recover. You did the right thing.

When I worked at a hospital if you came in puking/with diarrhea you got sent right home and werent allowed to come back until you had stopped doing it for 24h, I would have called in sick too, better for you and the patients. Besides its miserable having to work with the flu.
