How can I prevent my daughter from being sexually active?

Hello ladies. This is my 17 year old daughter, Jamilah, and the boy she has recently started dating. My girl is a very good young woman. She makes all As and Bs, she doesn't question me when I tell her something, and she usually stays out of trouble. However with her having a job and a car I feel like that gives her easier access to do stuff with the boy. So I put life360 on her phone but what else can I do?

Instead of putting life 360 on her phone you could talk to her about protection. As a parent you should of known that this was going to happen and you can’t stop it from happening. She seems like she is doing fine but if you do this or try to make her “stop” then it’s only going to force her to actually do it or something else will happen. Who knows maybe she isn’t having sex, you just have to trust in the child that you raised

Honestly, there's nothing you can do. Angela gave great advice. You have to realize though that she's going to do it when she's ready regardless of if you want her to or not. The best thing you can do is educate her. Teach her about birth control, contraceptives, STDs/STIs, pregnancy, etc. It's better to be safe than sorry.

You can’t! But you CAN respectfully tell her how you feel and why you’d like her to wait to have sex and she can make her own decisions. I feel like when someone is more concerned about telling them NO they’re going to want to do it more because they’re not seeing why you may feel that way. She’s her own person, even though you made her. I would have an open conversation so she feels like she doesn’t need to hide things from you (which usually leads to being unsafe and actually yielding the consequences you’re afraid of). My mom always told me I wasn’t allowed to have sex, and I never felt comfortable talking to her about it. Yes I grew up to be extremely successful and I’m still close with my mom (like super duper close) but that’s a part of our relationship we never got to be open with each other about because I was scared to talk to her. All you can do is teach her right from wrong. Give her the tools to go out there and be a law abiding citizen. Talk to her about sex and what comes along with having sex.

You can't. I agree with the previous posts, sex education (teach her about all the stis/stds, don't let a guy pressure her for sex, protection, pregnancy birth control, getting tested and the importance.) See what she knows and make it comfortable for her to speak to you. And trust her to make the right decisions for herself.

Talk with her, Educate Her, Encourage her to explore the world in a safe way. Mommy daughter trips are a great way to do this, encourage her to see the world with safer groups of ppl around her. Encourage her to join groups in the community that will occupy her time and especially keep her busy from losing focus. Above it all I believe in prayer and if you do too, I’d pray as I do all this.

My daughters only going on 3.. but we plan to get her checked by her doctor every year until she’s 18. We also plan to bribe the hell out of her and tell her we will get her whatever car she wants, and pay for her an apartment for one year if she stays a Virgin, off drugs, and gets good grades until she’s at least 18. We won’t kick her out or anything if she messes up and I plan to talk to her about everything she’ll need to know if she decides not to wait. But under our roof, this is our choice. I think had my mom offered me that, I’d still be a Virgin now 😂😂😂🤣

Be real with her about all the consequences that come along with sex. I’m not just talking about STDs and safe sex. I mean the responsibility that comes along with unplanned pregnancy, the possibility of having to do it alone, the cost of daycare compared to how much she makes at her job. Make her responsible for her sexual health and tell to her make an annual appointment for Pap smear and std checks. Is she on birth control? If not, it’s time but sit down and go through the side effects with her. You want to know when something’s not right, the warning signs of blood clots, mood disturbances, etc. Sex is an adult choice so it’s time for her do the adult thing with your guidance.

Beautiful young lady! Everyone gave great advice so far. I can certainly understand your concerns as a mom with a teen daughter who has so much going for herself. Please consider having a conversation with her about dating but I will admit that if the talk wasn’t given before you allowed her to date that it might come with a few regrets and things you may not be ready and prepared to hear. I know this first hand and it left me with a plethora of mixed emotions. I encourage you to bravely have “the talk” rather sooner than later. YOU CAN DO THIS!!
