Frustration

Long story short... today they found a decent amount of protein in my urine so I’m doing the 24 hour collection. During this collection, I have noticed that my urine is always deep orange/red or bright red (sometimes). I’ve drank 5 bottles of water in 10-11 hours due to cramping and stuff. There’s no reason why I’d be dehydrated anyway.

So anyway, I called the on-call doctor to be sure I’m okay. I’ve had so many complications in this pregnancy, I just want to make sure. The answer was “there really no knowing what it is. Keep doing what you’re doing and we will figure it out tomorrow.”

Sometimes, I get frustrated not knowing why something is the way it is...

I was told that some people need more water than others to not be dehydrated. Like someone can get by with 3-4 water bottles a day while someone else might need 9+. I try to drink 7 or 8. But in all honesty I’ve been slacking big time with drinking water this past week. Today I’ve only had 3. I feel so guilty about it.

I also was just there on Friday and everything was fine. Monday, it was not. I’ve been having complications so. It’s lighter now but it’s still orange... urine is yellow.

It’s hard cause I can’t drink that much. I’m not thirsty that often and if I drink too much, I will get sick and lose it all. It’s kind of like an overstuffed thing.

I had that color urine when I had kidney stones. They might be checking for those and will run it through a sifter. Hopefully they will figure it out quickly for you.

I had uric acid stones from my alcohol use. One was so big it ended up needing two surgeries because the lithotripsy to blast it apart didn't work. It wasn't too bad, but I was a reading alcoholic taking the pain pills too. If you do have stones, hopefully they will be the calcium oxalate ones that break easier and can be helped sometimes with diet. My advice if they recommend any surgery... Don't do the lithotripsy. Take the second option where they just go in and get it but hopefully it won't get there for you;

Also remember the further along you are getting you'll need to drink more. More the better. Your body and baby are taking LOTS of that fluid so just try and get more than normal. I know it's not easy. I'm 35+2 & its HARD.

I was fine all last week at my three appointments with her. Friday I was okay, Monday they found the protein. I probably drank more water (I have low fluid so I drink as much as my threshold allows) this weekend. Even after 5 bottles of water in 6-8 hours (had to drink juice in morning for testing and was there 3 hours, had half a bottle of water there that I’m not counting), it was lighter but it’s still orange. It’s not a regular yellow, it’s orange, just lighter now.
