Using nipple shields

So baby boy is 3 days old. When in recovery my nipples were really flat and to get him to start eating we used a nipple shield. I’ve tried on and off to see if he will latch and no luck my nipple doesn’t go that far into his mouth. My milk has come and we’re still using the nipple shield but now my breast are so engorged that not all of my nipple gets into the shield so he’s getting air too. Looking for all kinds of ideas/help/solutions/fixes. I don’t want to over produce milk right now but I need to be able to feed him through the shield. Thanks mommas!
