When did your hospital give you the baby?

I’m on my first and went on a tour of my hospital I plan on delivering at. And, they said once the baby is born they give you the baby right away for skin to skin. Do they clean the baby first or they give you the baby like this with blood? I’ve heard two different things from people. Any experiences? Thanks!

If you want your baby cleaned first then that’s what you will get if you want your baby straight on your chest that’s what you will get . It’s up to you , write what you want in your birth plan

You write it out and add to your notes , where I live most make one about 34 weeks, I’m high risk so I have to make mine by 30 weeks

It’s a little fuzzy, but I’m pretty sure my daughter got put on my belly for a moment, but they had to clean her up right away (right next to the bed), because she peed and pooped all over herself and me. Then she was given right back for some more skin to skin. It was a bit of a scramble because I only had 1 nurse with me when I started pushing and they expected it to take more than 8 minutes...

it all depends on your hospital. my hospital did skin to skin immediately and my mom cut the cord while baby was on my chest and my hospital also doesn’t give them a bath until 12 hours after birth. skin to sound immediately after birth has been shown to help with bonding and helps get baby to regulate their temperature better. baby is born with all this protective substance on their body and delaying bath gives all that good stuff to soak in their skin and help with their immune system.

As soon as my baby came out, the nurses ripped my gown right off (I was surprised lol but didn’t care in the moment) and they put him on my chest and wiped him a bit while he was on me because apparently he peed on me right away 🤷🏼‍♀️

I got my daughter right away and then they took her not 15 sec later because she had pooped while being inside me still and she didn’t make any noise coming out. As soon as they lifted her off of me she screamed. You’re not going to care in the moment if your baby is soaked with all the yummy stuff on you. Skin skin is best right after baby is born and the vernix on the baby actually has lots of good for the babies skin!

At my hospital they gave me baby straight out, but on my hospital gown, and they wiped them down a little as they passed them over. Then after the placenta was out and the cord was snipped they wiped baby down better while I moved the gown for proper skin to skin

That’s something you can discuss with your doc. I remember at one of my early appt I was asked if I want my baby clean up or if I went baby immediately after... I ended up need a csection. But I still was joking my son working minutes of having him

With my first he was laid on my gown for a second before being whisked away for a few minutes due to him having the cord around his neck and not breathing. By the time they brought him back he had been wiped off. However, normally they just lay them on the gown or blanket covering your chest (if there is on) and wipe them off while on you
