Opinion of name Kailer??

Question

I LOVE the name Kyler for boy or girl. But I want the name Kai to be in it. Is Kailer too “trendy”? I’ve seen a lot of negativity towards it because Americans say Kai should be pronounced with a long A= Kay. Opinions? Alternative spelling? Names with Kai?

My husband called me a few weeks ago and before we were even expecting and all he said was “Kaiber.” He had to repeat himself like 3 times so I could get the “B” he looooves it. I think it probably has something to do with gaming or some other nerdy aspect he’s into.
I’m still not sold, but I do love the nickname Kai, so we’ve left it as a contender. We’re also from USA. 
I prefer the “traditional” spelling of Kyler, if that’s what you’re going to call him, but if you really think you’ll call him by a nickname, Kai looks much more boyish than Ky. 
Also Ky is a state abbreviation.
