Penn Foster?

Very random topic for this app but with my work schedule I don’t have much time to call vet offices when they’re open to ask questions. I did call Penn Foster but I want personal experiences too. They won’t tell me anything negative about themselves and I understand that. That’s why I’m here now.
This seems too good to be true. Can you easily find a job as a vet tech with just a Penn Foster degree? Or do you have to transfer and finish at a different school? Are the classes doable or extremely difficult? Thank you!

Penn foster is a VTNE accredited program. So, by completing their very tech program you are eligible to sit your VTNE to get your CVT license. Yes, this is all you need in most states. Every state is different with their licensing, though. Here in Jersey, you dont need either to work at a vet's office, but in New York, you need both the completion of the program and a passing score on the VTNE. There also are 3 states that do not require you go through a program to sit the VTNE. So just check your states regulations. That being said, even if your state does not require you to be a CVT to work as a tech, you absolutely WILL go farther and make more money if you are one. As for job availability, all depends on your location. Where I'm at, I live within 30 minutes of 6 major emergency and specialty care veterinary offices as well as a multitude of GP offices. But, I can imagine it might be harder to find a job/competitive pay if you lived in a more rural area. As for the "college accreditation" side of Penn Foster, it's not really a college. If all you want to be is a tech and all you need is a program to get you to sit the VTNE, great go for it. But understand that if you were to ever want to go back to school and build on that degree, no actual college or university will accept those credits. As a biology major myself, the vet courses are great, but the rest of the gen ed courses are a joke compared to real college. Hope this helped your decision! Also, some companies will reimburse your tuition if you work for them long enough. And Banfield will actually sponsor you through the Penn Foster program if you work for them.

Oh! And your first and second semester are completely bookworm based, so you dont have to worry about a job during that time, BUT practicals start in the third semester and there are A LOT of practicals. So, I'm not sure how anyone would manage to complete the program if they didn't start working for a vet's office by the third semester.
