Latching pain 😣

My daughter is four days old today and lovessss the boob, which is great! She took a few tries in the first couple days to get a good latch on the boob, and those few tries each time has resulted in some pretty tender and sore nipples, with some very minor cracking I believe. I'm doing what I can to soothe them, but it still REALLY hurts when she first latches on and for the first 10 seconds or so of her suckling vigorously for milk. I want to cry each time 😣 when does it get better? My nipples will toughen a bit soon, right?
