Should a doctor get permission to break your water?

Makayla

During labor the doctor broke my water without checking if I wanted her to (she didn't even tell me until the hook was already hooked on the bag) she just said "okay I'm breaking your water" I had hoped to let it break naturally unless of course we HAD to speed up labor because of issues with the baby or if labor stalled but I had been progressing steadily and nothing was wrong that I was made aware of. I was a little annoyed that I wasn't consulted before she broke my water but obviously its not the biggest deal but it was a little triggering that I wasn't in control of what they were doing to my body. Especially because it seemed unnecessary. At the very least I feel that they should have explained what they were going to and why BEFORE they did it. Am I overreacting due to past trauma or is it reasonable to expect a doctor to ask/explain before performing a medical procedure (outside an emergency situation)
