Difference between crib and bassinet?

Hi mamas! 
Please enlighten me: what is the difference between a crib and a bassinet? 
We’re going to have his crib in our room right beside our bed. Can a new born baby sleep in the crib right away or do we need a bassinet? Are they different or the same lol?

Crib is more multifunctional. And you can use it from beginning. Bassinet is more convinient just next to your bed, but i'd say, it is just a convinence, I think I will go only with a crib also. No need to buy extra things

A bassinet is smaller and designed for only a few months of use, usually till around when baby starts to roll over. Many people recommend using a bedside bassinet for the first few months of baby’s life. However, you can definitely go straight to a crib. My kid slept in his own full size crib even in his own room from one week old on. He slept so much better in it. We had the owlet monitor for him so we felt good about letting him sleep on his own. Baby just needs a safe place to sleep and a crib is totally acceptable for that.

Well a crib is bigger, we just moved my 3 year old from her crib to a big girl bed if that give you any gage at how long your child can be in a crib. Usually you set up the baby’s nursery with the crib in it and keep the bassinet in tour room while the baby is still very young. You do this because baby will be waking up every few hours to feed and you’ll want them close, also if you’re breastfeeding it’s easier to have them next to tour bed so you can just pick them up without having to get up- very important after recovering from birth. Some ppl who don’t have the luxury of having a nursery will keep the crib in their room. Still it’s hard when you’re waking up every few hours to always get out of bed and get baby when you’re half asleep.
