Is it safe/realistic to travel with a one month old?

My good friends are getting married about 5 weeks after our due date. This will be my first baby. It’s just in a different province so I’m not worried about getting sick at the location itself/getting shots etc. It is about a 5 hour flight. Is this safe? Is it totally unrealistic of me to think I can make it? (I would be bringing our baby)

I mean you can definitely do it. But do you want to? It seems like a huge hassle.

This really depends on the baby and how you are feeling. My kids hated their car seats so any sort of driving in the car was a disaster. If you use a car seat on the plane which is what is recommended you may be in for a long flight but like I said it really depends on the baby. Not everyone gets lucky 😓

I personally wouldn’t just bc I was so damn exhausted after I had my daughter. She was colicky and it was a nightmare.

I took a 4 hour flight with my baby when she was one month old. The Academy of Pediatrics recommends buying them a ticket so you can buckle in your car seat. We picked an FAA compliant car seat for that purpose. She was great! I only unbuckled her to nurse her.

I’d say it would probably depend on the demeanor of the baby. My daughter was super easy going as a newborn and she probably would have done great on a flight...now that she’s a toddler is a different story while try g to keep her entertained. But as someone else said, you’ll likely be really exhausted at 4 weeks since baby will likely not be sleeping very many consecutive hours at that point
