Metformin?

Question

My diet is not improving my fasting numbers so I thought I was going to be on insulin, but now I’ve been told that they’d rather me take metformin. Anyone else taking this? Any insight/success stories?

Answer

Different doctors gave different views. My endocrinologist does not like using metformin in pregnancy because it crosses the placenta.  Insulin is also not as hard on your stomach and gives you better control throughout the day.  I was on metformin prior to pregnancy and switched at my first appointment at 9 weeks to insulin. I’ll go back to metformin after delivery to manage my type 2 diabetes.

I’m on it right now currently 24 weeks and no problems here. Was on it prior to pregnancy to help get pregnant.
