Dialting eyes / 6 year old !?

So I have no visions problems at all. Hubs does. Our 6 yr old got a referral to a eye dr. Eye dr says he definitely needs  glasses . She wants to dilate his eyes in order to get a greater understandingly his vision and his prescription & to be accurate since he’s so young . However I have mixed feelings. How do child react ? How long does it last? Is there anything I should do for him after the process ? It’s all new to me since I do not need glasses . Hubs says he had never gotten eyes dilated before so he doesnt know either . Help ?

Optometrist here: absolutely do the drops! kids are exceptionally good in hiding refractive errors, especially farsightedness. The drops makes you unable to accommodate/focus so the true refractive power shows. They also makes it easier to see the retina, but that's not the main reason for using it on kids. I have had kids coming in with +7 in both eyes and perhaps a little headache here and there as symptoms. 
The drops sting a little bit, so have them do both at the same time! Depending on witch type they use it can last from 1-2 hours, 12-18 hours, even 1 week(extremely rare that they use this on kids!) It's also normal that the pupils might have different sizes the next day, but this will fix itself within a day or so.

My twins are 2 and have been to the eye doctors plenty of times. They dilate their eyes every time they get a check up.
Since they are young they can’t tell me if it bothers them but they seem normal except i feel like the natural light kinda bothers them because they tend to close their eyes once we go outside after the appointment.
The dilation lasts a few hours.

My kid is 2. She’s had her eyes dilated in order to get an accurate prescription for glasses. It may burn for a second but that’s it. The dilation lasts a couple hours. Bring sunglasses for the kiddo to wear after the appointment.

They’re just drops to check the back of the eye basically. They get a better check on eBay prescription they would need. My 3 year old just had it done for second time (first was at 1 year old) and he was fine. He was a bit sensitive to light/sunlight but we went home to a dark room to help.
