Do u rely on ur cycle day(app) or your discharge or what else? How to know when to avoid sex or be more cautious?

I never rely on the app to tell me when I’m in my fertile window. I reply on OPKs that help me track ovulation. The app is just an estimate and isn’t always accurate.

The app is just an estimate & isn’t always accurate. Therefore, u should NEVER solely rely on the app to know if/when ur fertile or ovulating. Try using ovulation tests, as well as diligently checking ur cervical discharge, position, and basal body temp. 
This can take a few months or longer to master. And, again, u have to be very diligent about it. So, unless ur ok with a possible pregnancy, I really don’t recommend this “method” as a way to prevent pregnancy.
