Twin births and skin to skin?

Question

Were you able to have immediate skin to skin contact with your first twin before the second one arrived? What about delayed cord clamping? I’m looking at birth preference templates thinking that some of these things would be nice, but some of them seem like they would be rushed because there’s another baby coming out.

My boys were born vaginally 7 minutes apart. I held Baby A for almost 5 minutes before it was time to push again and then the nurses took him and cleaned him up and checked him. After baby B was born, I held them both for an hour (our hospitals policy is to have skin to skin for an hour after birth) I think it’s standard practice at most hospitals as long as their aren’t any complications with mom or babies.

Probably depends on how they are born, timing of them both, and if they and you are healthy or need emergency treatment. I had a c-section and got to hold both of my babies together right after they were born (they were only 2 minutes apart). I only really had skin to skin with one of them at that point as the other needed to be warmed up a bit and was wrapped up.

I wish I had. They took baby A, and cleaned him up and weighed him and handed him right to my husband while I was pushing out baby B 😔 But I got to hold baby B as soon as he came out. I wish I had gotten skin to skin with both immediately.

My doctor is a firm believer in skin skin after birth and delayer cord clamping in twins.

I think there are a lot of deciding factors for these. What type of delivery, type of twins etc. for mo/mo or mo/di i believe you can’t delay cord clamping (or are least more long) as it can cause harm to the second baby. Not positive. So I’d say you have to talk to tour Dr about procedure. I also assume it would depend how far along you are and the condition of the babies at birth/their needs.
