Could I possibly have twins?

So I have my first ultrasound on the 27th of this month, so I’ll know for sure in a few days. I just wanted to see what others had to say about the matter. So basically my husband is a fraternal twin, my mother had twins and twins run on my grandmothers side of the family and every other generation on my grandfathers side. Is it possible that I may have twins either this pregnancy or in the near future? What exactly would my chances be?

Your husband being a twin has nothing to do with you having twins. But since they run on your moms side, you could definitely end up with twins. Fraternal twins is from hyper ovulation which is genetic. Identical twins is just luck of the draw!

Are the twins in your family fraternal? Identical twins are random, and only fraternal twins are genetic, due to the hyperovulation gene. Even if you release 2 eggs, both have to be fertilised & implant, so it’s just the luck of the draw really. It’s often said that twins skip a generation, which isn’t strictly true, but just means that not everyone in a family with twins will have twins. Twins run in my family, but no one else in my generation had them (cousins, sibling etc), just me.

I have a lot of twins in my family but I had only one baby🤷🏻‍♀️ I think it’s kinda the lunch of the draw tbh
