Pregnant in covid-19 LOCKDOWN
I’m 38, 8 weeks pregnant with my second
baby. I live in South Africa. We have about 400-500 confirmed covid cases atm (not sure about today’s new numbers yet); not that many but the problem is that it’s rising rapidly and with our country’s infrastructure the existing health care system won’t be able to cope if this trend continues. In the words of the President.
So yesterday, after only a week of social distancing measures (which didn’t help much), national lockdown was declared. We will only be allowed outside for very essential tasks eg food shopping, going to the pharmacy and getting essential medical care. Luckily my gynae still sees pregnant patients once a week. This will last, for now, at least for 21 days. Hopefully it is enough.
Most businesses are closed. Tax breaks are in place but it doesn’t change the fact that both my and dh’s own businesses are closed with no chance of income from them for at least a month (people have started canceling appointments from last week). My husband has to pay hundreds of thousands in salaries with no income for a month.
The shops are empty atm and I for one didn’t panic buy (some of us had to work during shopping hours! And I can’t financially afford buying everything a month ahead) I’m worried about having enough nutrition for my pregnancy and my toddler. Never mind washing powder, garbage bags etc.
We aren’t even allowed to go outside for a walk.
Anyone else in the Glow community on lockdown? How are you coping? It feels VERY unreal.
ETA: hundreds of thousands of Rands translate to tens of thousands of Dollars, so not a huge company.
