Tampons

I’ve been trying to use tampons for my last few cycles and it’s always uncomfortable I’ve pushed it up with my finger and most other tips I’ve seen but when I try to sit down and stand up it hurts. My tampons also have a security guard on them and I’m not quite sure if that goes inside me or stays out but both ways seem uncomfortable to me. Any tips would be super helpful!!!!
