Hyperactive 3 year old

My s/f son is very hyperactive from the time he wakes up to bed time. We literally have to fight with him to go to bed. He is very high strung independent. He hates if you try to help him with anything and sometimes even hits you or cries if you try helping him. What are somethings that we can do to help him calm down some. I get the child is three and it’s normal. But it’s even causing problems at school sometimes. So please no bashing.
