Am I the only one?

Question

Am I the only one that doesn’t believe in PGS Testing the embryos. To me personally it feels like I’m playing God by choosing the gender and weeding out all the abnormal embryos. As a Christian I don’t believe in throwing away human embryos. Just want to see everyone’s thoughts on this matter. I Don’t judge anyone for there beliefs one way or another.

My husband and I did PGS testing....the reason we did was because I suffered three miscarriages due to abnormal embryos and the thought of having one more miscarriage would have destroyed me.  The PGS testing allowed us to transfer a healthy embryo and finally give us some hope.  So for me, I thank god for PGS testing because it gave me my Bubba 🙏

You can choose to not know the gender when transfering and transfer randomly. However abnormal embryos dont make it almost all the time and end up being miscarried.  So even God God doesnot let the abnormal embryos continue.  And I think if we applying that kind of thinking to embryos and that we are playing God same thing could be applied to doing ivf in the first place. 
However I believe (and I am very christian) that God put everything on this earth for us to use to help us live happily as long as we are not hurting another soul . And these things that are available to us include medical advancements and technology.

After two failed transfers I chose to test. I’m glad I did. I still don’t know the sex of my baby, we are waiting until birth, but physically, emotionally and financially, I never would’ve been able to do a 4th or 5th transfer. It was an exhausting year process with 3 egg retrievals, 1 failed fresh and 1 failed frozen before a frozen finally worked. I think if you’re doing scientific intervention to get pregnant, testing embryos and transferring one that is compatible with life isn’t any more intervention than the process in whole.

Totally agree with what Marie said. We haven’t had any miscarriages ever and have just three embryos, so we didn’t test. We will transfer all of them. Sometimes abnormal embryos can become babies, so I wasn’t going to waste my money on testing the embryos I plan on transferring anyway, ya know? In some situations, it is good to test. I wouldn’t say it’s wrong necessarily, but you could potentially throw out a baby with the sometimes inaccuracies of testing. If testing an embryo is playing God, than IVF is general must be playing God, or getting treatment for cancer must be playing God. It’s not! I’m in the group of women who just don’t view infertility treatment as “elective” like most insurance companies and people do. It’s treatment for a medical diagnosis.

I wanted to do PGS testing and even cut the check. My number one reason was to avoid having a miscarriage. However, I only had one egg fertilized, so I changed my mind and had them void the check. It was a flat fee of $5000 at my clinic and it wasn't worth it to test just one embryo. I don't think there is a right and wrong answer here. There are good reasons to test and some good reasons not to. I also think it is dependent on a person's individual situation: age, medical history, finance, etc all play a role in the decision.

I’m based in Ireland and we did our 1st round of IVF in Feb. We are 29/30 and so PGS testing wasn’t offered to us as important - it’s obviously a service they provide but it’s not cheap. We didn’t do it and had 2 blastocysts on day 5, we transferred one and froze the other. 
I can completely understand why people would do the testing though. For couples who have been TTC for several years, for those who have experienced multiples miscarriages, we are all only human at the end of the day and we get through the hurdles but they take an emotional and mental tole. Any small thing that could help get a positive outcome for couples I am all for!! 💕💕

I definitely think it’s a personal choice. My sister also did IVF and they chose not to test. We chose to test. 
My clinic in Australia does not tell you the sex until you would normally find out.

I did pgs testing and my first two transfers failed. One was a chemical. So it doesn’t necessarily save any heartache. I think everyone should learn this!!
