My bf has had a past relationship with his ex smoking and she basically chose it over him. I used to smoke but have been on probation for the past year ending in June. He knows cause we’ve known each other all thru high school but just started dating. He told me that he didn’t like it and didnt want me smoking cause he didn’t want it coming between us his family also doesn’t like it either. It helps me with my depression and several other problems I’ve tried medicine but I could never find one that helped me. I don’t want to lose him so would you quit or not?

I personally would rather lay all my cards on the table with a person and if they accept me as I am, then that’s awesome. If a person doesn’t accept me as I am, just being honest and being realistic… ￼I’m not going to change for them. You can’t get into a relationship with someone and then try to change them. That only causes more problems and it rarely ever works. ￼ Because eventually I’m going to smoke weed and I’ll be damned if I feel like I have to hide what I do. I am an adult who makes my own choices. ￼

He’s a boyfriend not a husband and he has no right to tell you not to smoke if that’s your choice he’s a controller he’s just starting small

Depends on his reasons and yours. If my husband told me it made him uncomfortable because it’s illegal (in our state) and I just do it to relax or have fun occasionally, I would. Maybe you guys can reach a compromise where you don’t do it around him?

I wouldn’t quit unless it was by my choice. I’d be willing to refrain from smoking around him, but I wouldn’t quit just because he doesn’t like it. That said, I do believe in compromise.

When I got with my husband he smoked every day. I let him know really quick that I didn't like it because I have a daughter that I have full custody of and it's illegal in my state. I have too much to lose to be taking silly risks like that and gave him the heads up that if he didn't want to quit then it wasn't going to work out. I wasn't afraid to leave. I have nothing against weed at all. If it were legal i'd be smoking it myself. But the facts are that it is and just because you don't want it to be, doesn't make it any less illegal. He quit not long after that conversation and switched to CBD products. We're happily married and have a baby on the way now.  Communication and compromise are key❤

When it comes to mental health, or other health issues that cannabis treats - in my case social anxiety, ptsd, and arthritis (I’m in my mid 20’s, and have arthritis in my wrist from my ex husband breaking it when he got drunk one night) - I personally would choose my well-being over someone wanting me to change a behavior. But now, I also wouldn’t be with someone who wasn’t 100% okay with how I choose to live. Especially if it was an issue with cannabis. While I agree there are a lot of people who misuse and abuse it, in my mind, cannabis is a plant, medicine, and the most beneficial route that I’ve taken. It helps me eat when I’m nauseous or it’s been all day and I don’t have an appetite, helps me relax and listen to my kids better when they’re frustrated rather than being exhausted, anxious, and overwhelmed. It helps me be a better version of myself, go to a crowded grocery just fine instead of hyperventilating - I only smoke 2x a day or I’ll make cannabis infused tea with my stems. It’s better for me to smoke than be dependent on prescriptions, that I sometimes won’t be able to afford or will have to take more of and run out sooner. If he thinks it’s “just a drug” then that’s his views and if you can’t get him to understand, wait for someone who will understand. People get caught up in the stigma surrounding cannabis, but it’s very beneficial for a variety of things, multiple sustainable uses from it as well. Don’t change who you are for someone. 🖤
