Pro circumciscion mama’s. What’s was it like? I’m freaking out.

I’ve been googling cuz I asked the front desk what it’s like and she said she had no idea, but knows he will be strapped down.

I’m not pro circumcision (won’t get into it) but why tf would she tell you that. That would freak anybody out. If she doesn’t know why is she there, he needs a little training or maybe a script. I’m pretty sure you’re not the only parent with questions

We didn’t go with for our son’s (we were still in the hospital when he had it). We had it done the same time as his newborn screening tests. They gave him a localized anesthetic to numb the area and gave us more Vaseline tubes than a person could ever need to help his diaper not stick. He left sleeping and came back sleeping.

my son couldnt be circumcised in the hospital when he was born, he had penial torsion. it was basically twisted to the left.  we literally just had his penoplasty (thats what our urologist called it since there isnt really an exact term for what they did) .. the procedure was done at the hospital, he was put under anesthesia & had to fast from that morning. he’s almost 9 months old now..
honestly, i was stressing our for a while before the procedure. he’s so young & going under anesthesia at any age scared me. mostly, we had family members that really wanted this done too so i sometimes felt this decision was out of my hands....BUT we had a really good doctor & a really good anesthesiologist. once we were at the hospital the nurses came to check on us & everyone asked if we had questions about what was going to happen, which really helped me to feel better about everything. the only downside was that i couldnt go in with him (due to covid).. i had to leave him with them once they got to the surgery hallway..previously, i guess we could hold them when they’re being put under so its not so traumatic for them...
baby boy cried a bit once he was waking up, he was a little fussy for the next couple days, and wanted lots of carries but he’s young, he heals fast. i’ve been home with him for a week & aside from taking the bandage off, everything has gone really well. his stitches will dissolve in another week or two but he’s back to his normal self! 
i feel the choice is 50/50.. theres no right or wrong answer when it comes to circumcision 🤷🏻‍♀️ so do whatever you (and baby’s daddy maybe) feel is best.  it took me a while to come to terms with my decision. sadly, i had gotten a bunch of mom shaming when i posted about this for advice a while ago which caused me to freak out alone in my own head up until his procedure. but do what YOU feel is best for your son 🙌🏼 and it will work out ☺️

My son had no issues. They give them these sugar water drops on a pacifier that act as an distraction and they use lidocaine on the penis to numb the area. Just keep it fully covered in gasoline or whatever they recommend at the hospital. Every diaper change reapply to that area. Do not wash it with soap until it heals and it’s a good idea to gasoline their bums too to help easily remove the meconium. Talk to your nurses if you have any questions. As far as pain goes, most baby boys I know have had no pain response because of the lidocaine.

My sons both handled it well. They were more upset about not being able to breastfeed for a certain period before. They do swaddle them to a board to prevent them from interfering. They were both 3 days old when they had it done. My first son just had EMLA cream applied and then the procedure. I feel like his pain wasn't as well controlled when we went home. My second son had lidocaine injected and when he came out he seemed calmer and just wanted to nurse. We did give both of them tylenol a couple of days after. We applied vaseline and gauze for a week for all diaper changes. You do have to slightly retract so that the skin does not fuse back together. They both healed quickly (in about a week). No complications at all and we don't regret the decision with either of our sons.

My son cried- when they wiped his butt! That was it! Other than that he just say there. I had my mom go with him instead of me because I felt like he cried more with me around.

I mean, I have to hold my son down for vaccines, I think it’s reasonable they strap a baby down during that procedure because any sort of reflex or movement could cause an error or injury. Changing tables have straps on them?
My son’s was done the day after he was born. He did just fine during the procedure and had no issues after. Everything healed in less than a week. Just be careful with the gauze. Sometimes it can stick to the tender skin so apply lots of Vaseline.

how old is your child ? my son got it the day we left the hospital , doctors told me he didnt even cry afterwards . its 12 months later and he has no problem peeing on me

My son is a little over a week old and seemed to tolerate it well when he had it done two days after birth. He came back to the room calm and comfortable with little indication of being in pain. It was suggested to me to make sure you have a urologist do it. They will have the best technique.
