Choosing a god parent for my child?

Hey y’all. Do any of you have god parents for your children? If so, who did you choose as the god parent? I don’t believe in having friends as god parents unless they’re like childhood friends that are family. I’d like my twin sister to be the god mother and my husbands brother to be the god father but I do not know how that would work. If something happened to one of us I’d want to make sure that not only does my family get to see/care for the child, but so does his. Is it odd to have a god mom and dad that don’t know each other well?

We did. Godparents don't get the child in the case of your demise. That is a legal situation.  Godparents are an honorary title tied to a non legally binding religious ceremony.

God parents are for religious guidance. Your children will not go to the God parents in the wake of your death unless you have it written in your will. My aunt was my God mother, but I haven't actually practiced catholicism since I was a teen and my husband isn't religious either so our kids don't have any god parents.

i don't have kids but i do have godparents. godparents are religious with no real legal title. if you want them to be listed as guardians, you would work that out with them and a probate/estate planning lawyer to name them in your will. my godparents guided me in religion as a child, but up until i became of age, my older brother and one of our aunts were named as my legal guardians in the event that my father passes or is otherwise no longer able to take care of me.

My god mom is my exes mom. I went to church with her and got baptized under her guidance. I love her very much and she’s not very close with  my mom or dad. I chose her because she is a good person and always cares for me and gives me great advice.

Godparents don’t raise your children. They’re simply for religious education/guidance. They have no legal standing. If you’re assigning someone to raise your children if something happens to you, that needs to be discussed with said people and legalities should be taken.

I chose my boyfriends sister & her husband. We chose his sister because she’s such an amazing sweet person & btw the other person kinda has it right but because they’re the god parents that would show up in court & that’s where your child would go. ANYWAY so I would say it is kinda weird to have god parents that don’t know each other well cause how would that work you know?

I chose my cousin and her husband, they have a miracle baby and are not likely to have another baby. I will also have papers signed and notarized that if something happens to us, they will get custody.
