Pedialyte for a newborn?

I had my baby 3 days ago and today we saw his pediatrician and he said he had jaundice and to give him pedialyte to help him pee it out. I’ve never heard of letting a baby have anything but breast milk/formula before they are 6 months? Especially at 3 days old?? Has anyone heard of this or done this? Any nurses or doctors on here who follow this rule?

Absolutely NOT!!! Breastmilk/formula only. At that point, I would switch pedis immediately. Dangerous advice!!

No, no Pedialyte for a newborn. Nothing but formula and/or breastmilk. What is up with these pediatricians giving out dangerous advice? I’d be looking for a new pediatrician. 
My second baby had jaundice and put her near our large living room window during the day and nursed her as much as possible. It cleared up in less than a week.

This is not related to jaundice at all, but my son was in the hospital at 5 weeks for RSV and he was drinking pedialyte. He wasn’t allowed to eat for almost 4 days, so when he was allowed to eat again he started off with pedialyte, and then half and half mixed with formula. I wasn’t aware this was such a no-no for infants. This was hospital doctor ordered...

I’ve already swapped pediatricians because she didn’t seem to know what she was doing but even she didn’t suggest that. She told me sunlight and to nurse a lot.

We did feeding every hour and sunlight. Do not give them anything other than breastmilk/formula

My son took pedialyte as a baby but not that young 🤨, and I’ve never heard of that as a solution to jaundice. I would recommend having another doctor take a second look.
