Toddler sleep help

Let me start by saying I have a son who is now 20 Months old. From the time he was born until he was about 12 months old I would rock him in a rocking chair by his bed and nurse him to sleep. It was the fastest and easiest way to get him to sleep. That was my goal since I was overly exhausted and working full time and let’s face it my husband wasn’t much help when it came to that because he couldn’t nurse my son. So my son would wake up throughout the night while until he was about 12 months randomly 1-4 times a night some nights not at all. Nursing would always put him back down. Once he reached 12 months I was weaning him off the boob. I would put him down with a bottle filled with water because i would brush his teeth before bedtime and didn’t want milk sitting on his teeth over night. He likes the sucking it soothes him and never took to a pacifier. I want to just be able to place him in his crib and have him go to bed on his own after let’s say we read a book or something on his rocking chair. He literally has to be asleep before I lay him down or he stands up and screams his head off until I pick him back up. There are nights where my

Husband takes him to put him down without a bottle and he takes forever to go to sleep but the main issue is he won’t go to sleep being put down while he’s awake. I have looked into sleep training, however I have heard not to sleep train while they’re teething. He is getting canine teeth right now and I sware he has been teething since 6 months so it’s apparently never been a good time to sleep train. Does anyone have any similar stories or suggestions? I am looking for advice. Thanks in advance.:)
