Tampon troubles?

So my period is relatively light. Only lasts about 3/4 days and is only “heavy” on day one and usually tampon #1 of day 2. The rest of the days I almost don’t need to use one. However, on the “heavy” days, my tampon doesn’t absorb everything and it’s all at the base/on the string and almost leaking. The tampon itself is almost all white still.

I insert it and it’s comfortable, so I don’t think it’s how I’m inserting it. Anyone else have this problem, or any suggestion?

I use regular size tampons and although I say “heavy” and “leaking” I don’t even think I have enough of a flow to up in size.
