Postpartum vaginal Bottle

Question

Hi ladies,
I bought one of those vaginal spray bottles to help with cleaning myself after baby. Should I only fill it with water? Or so you recommend adding a soap or something? I imagine that soap would sting down there after birth. Also should I pack this up in my hospital bag or leave it at home?

Hospitals usually provide one for you along with a sitz bath. You can pack it with you if you would like. I would also call the maternity ward and ask what's going to be available for you while you're staying there!

Peru bottles with warm water only followed by using a tucks pad. Life changing for sure. It felt so good!

Do not add soap in it. Only warm water. I would suggest getting this one. Even though the hospital provides one. This was was way easier to use.

I like this one better than the one from the hospital. Just make sure you give the top a good pull other wise it leaks. My ob and my midwife said once I got home I could add either a teaspoon of baking soda or a teaspoon of unscented  Epsom salt to it if I was feeling really uncomfortable, but not  all the time. The sitz baths the give you in the hospital are just epsom salt.

My hospital provided me with several perinatal bottles (I wanted one in each of my bathrooms so I wasn’t having to go up and down the stairs too much) you just have to ask. unlike the other women, my nurses recommended putting a little of the baby’s J&J into the bottle with warm water. it’s so gentle I didn’t have any problems with burning or irritation (even with a level 2 tear). I think the soap helped me feel more clean/fresh, good luck!
