I am going to go past 40 weeks?

Question

So I went to my 38 weeks appointment today. I was only 1cm and 70% effaced. Doctor told me baby is very, very low. Does that mean baby is coming soon? She wanted to induce me by next week but I rejected offer. I want to give my body time. Is anybody in the same page or from own experience? Is baby going to be here soon? Thank you.

I am including a graph from Emily Foster's 'Expecting Better' book. She is an economist who went through tons of existing data on pregnancy related questions to find answers. From the graph, if you are 60-80% effaced at the 37 weeks appointment, there is a 90% chance of baby coming before their due date. Based on that, there is a 90% chance you will meet your baby in the next three weeks! Hope this helps. Also, my doctor does not recommend inducing until 42 weeks if everything is normal, so do not feel bad about rejecting the doctor's offer to induce. Hang in there Mama!

With my 2nd pregnancy at 38 weeks I had no signs of labor and then at 39 weeks and 4 days I had my little girl I did get offered to induce at 39 weeks and 2 days thank god I didnt cause I had her 2 days later so be patient before u know it ur baby will be here

Yes! Just give yourself baby time to grow! Dates are just guesstimates. It’s VERY common to go 41+ weeks. I have some friends who went to 44+ weeks.
