First time testing ovulation help

Hello! So since my daughter my cycle has not been extremely regular. The last three months I finally seem to maybe be getting morale regular. It seems my cy

cle is about 33-35 days. I'm currently on day 14 of my cycle and took an ovulation test just to see. I think it's negative but is it like lighter the farther you are away from ovulating or is it always this dark when negative? Just trying to guage when I should test next. Am I too early? I m figured maybe start now even though my app says I won't ovulate till the 18th. What do you all think?
